Two URLs. That's the Whole API.

A video player asks for a lot of files under the hood - media playlists, segments, and so on. You never type those by hand. As a publisher, there are really only two endpoints you need to know.

The .csmil Endpoint — Point Your Site Here

The flagship. Feed it a comma-separated list of your already-encoded renditions and it packages them into an HLS stream on the fly, caches the result, and serves it. Packaging is CPU-cheap, so your server does almost nothing per request while your storage does the work.

It uses the same URL grammar Akamai Media Services On Demand used, so if you're migrating off Akamai, your existing player integrations mostly just work — no rewrite.

The /i/abr/ Endpoint — Encodes For You

Haven't encoded Adaptive Bitrate renditions yet? Point here instead. It's a state machine, not a file server:

Renditions already on disk? It 302-redirects straight to the .csmil URL and gets out of the way. Nothing exists yet? It queues your full ABR ladder in the background and instantly hands your viewer a fast, single-rendition stream so they're watching in seconds, not staring at a spinner. Once the real renditions land, later requests redirect to .csmil automatically.
